Q: When I try to view a file on the ADWR web site, I just get garbage, or a window pops up and asks me to save or download a file. Why can't I view this file?
A: In order to view these files, you must have the appropriate viewer/reader installed on your computer. This site uses Adobe Acrobat files (.pdf), Microsoft Word Files (.doc) and Microsoft Powerpoint Files (.ppt). Links to these programs are provided on the ADWR Download Center page. These programs are easy to download, install and use.
See the bottom of this page for Viewer Downloads and more information.

Q: Where can I find information regarding water conservation?
A: ADWR promotes several water
conservation programs.

Q: What is the Wells 55 Database?
A: The database includes Notices of Intent to Drill (NOI) (55-500000’s), Registrations of Existing Wells (55-600000’s and 55-800000’s) and existing wells that are Registered to be Abandoned (55-400000’s).

The 55-500000’s are wells that have been applied for or have been drilled after 1980. A Driller’s Report is submitted when the well is drilled. A Completion Report is submitted when a pump is installed. The file will include changes to the well and well ownership changes. Some files will contain only the Notice of Intent to Drill because no action was ever taken. The Registration Numbers for these Notices are cancelled in the database.

The 55-600000 and 55-800000 series are Registrations of Existing Wells. The 55-600000’s were registered timely by June 16, 1982, 55-800000’s are Late Registrations. The files will normally have the Registration and changes to the well or the ownership of the well.

The 55-400000 series is for existing wells found but will not be used. These files have the Notices of Intent to Abandon and the Abandonment Completion Report.

In other words, the 55 files contain Notices of Intent to Drill or to Modify or Deepen, Registrations, Driller Reports, Completion Reports, Change of Well information, Change of Ownership, Notice of Well Capping, Notices of Intent to Abandon and Abandonment Completion Reports.

Q: What is Adobe Acrobat Reader and what are PDF files?
A: Adobe PDF is a universal file format that preserves all the fonts, formatting, graphics, and color of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Adobe PDF files are compact and can be shared, viewed, navigated, and printed exactly as intended by anyone with free Adobe Acrobat® Reader® software.
See the bottom of this page in the Viewer Download Center and the Adobe Acrobat Reader for more information.

Q: What is the best way to search the Well Drillers List?
A: For the entire list, leave the text box blank and click 'Search'. To search for a specific driller, type the first few characters of a zip code, city or company name into the search box and click search. The results that follow are ordered by company name. For instance, if you type ray into the search box and click "Search", the results will bring up every record that contains ray anywhere in the record.

For Example:
If you were to use the example ray from above, the following results would be returned from anywhere in the record:

Ray, Drayor Drilling, Raymond C. Driller, McCray, Craycroft Road, etc.

When searching by zip code, enter just the first 3 or 4 characters of the desired zip code and click submit which should return many results.

This list is limited to full-time well drillers who are licensed with the Arizona Department of Water Resources. Please keep this in mind when performing your search. Well Drillers List.

Q: Where is the old Hydrology web site that used to be on the ADWR web site?
A: The old hydrology web site is still here, it has been integrated into the ADWR Info Central Online Store. All the products and services that were available on the old Hydrology web site are now available there.
Go to the ADWR Info Central Online Store

Q: We recently acquired land in Arizona and would like to see about drilling a well for water. Can you provide any approved drillers?
A: Our Well Driller List is searchable and can be brought up by the ADWR Driller License Number.
Well Driller List

Q: Can I submit well owner changes (address, name, usage changes, etc.) or other types of information updates in an e-mail message?
A: No. (The only exception is the NOI for registered drillers.) The only official way to notify us about updating information on file at ADWR is to fill out and send back to us an official ADWR
form which can be found here.

Q: I am a registered driller with ADWR and want to start the process to drill a well. Where is this information?
A: Certain types of wells can be filled out online using the NOI / eNOI process at the
Online Filing Center for Notices of Intention to Drill Wells.

Q: I am trying to download information and the file size is big, but is taking a very long time, why?
A: When downloading a large file size wise (say over 10MB), it will take a while for all the information to make it to your computer. This length of time depends on your Internet connection. If you connect on a phone dial-up connection, a 10MB (or 10,000KB) will take over 23 minutes to completely download. Even if you connect to the Internet on a high speed fast LAN or Cable modem (and are outside of the Phoenix ADWR building) a 10MB file will take about a minute to completely download.

When downloading very large file at 100MB, the time to download on a dial-up connection will be approximately 4 hours. Even on a high speed connection, it will take about 9 minutes for the file to completely download.

Please be very patient when attempting to download a large file or a very large file that is 100s of Megabytes in size. During this process your computer may be much slower than usual or completely unresponsive for a while.

For quicker viewing, a file may be downloaded to your computer and viewed from there. When using the Internet Explorer web browser, use the right mouse button to click for a menu and select "Save Target As..." then save that file to your computer (using your My Documents folder for example). Then view the file from there which will be much faster than downloading it again.
